Kwale Plane Crash Killed 11 People On Board

A plane crashed at Tsimba Golini area in Kwale county coast region leading to loss of tourists and a local pilot, officials confirmed.

The search and retrieval for the remains of 11 people who died in Kwale on Tuesday morning plane crash resumed on Wednesday ,the government said that it requires more equipment to facilitate the process

Mombasa Air Safari said the plane was carrying eight Hungarians, two Germans and a Kenyan pilot, all of whom had been killed in the crash

The aircraft was flying from the popular beach resort of Diani to an airstrip in the world-famous MaasaiMara game park, popular with holidaymakers because of its wildlife. when it went down at 05:30 local time the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed the incident.

Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orinde said that the plane crashed about 10km (six miles) from Kwale town after flying out of Diani.

However Orinde said that investigations into the cause of the crash were ongoing but suggested it could have been due to bad weather.

“The weather is not very good here at the moment. Since early in the morning, it is raining and it is very misty, but we cannot preempt, Orinde said.

The airline, Mombasa Air Safari, said in a statement on Tuesday that the pilot failed to communicate upon departure and that the airport control tower tried to reach him for 30 minutes before the aircraft was located.

Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on social media on Tuesday that the Hungarian victims included two families. Two children were among the dead, he wrote.

Speaking at the crash site, Aviation Principal Secretary Teresia Mbaika revealed that some of the body parts might be buried below the wreckage which left a depression on the site.

The report of the crash will be published in the next 30 days in accordance to the laid protocols, with the families of the victims expected to await DNA profiling in order to identify their kin.

The government has officially contacted the German and Hungarian governments, as well as the families of the victims.

The full report of the investigations will be tabled in 30 days in accordance with the protocols of the conventions on international civil aviation organisations ensuring its transparency.

Kenya’s performance in accident investigation fell below the global average, according to the most recent safety oversight audit for the country posted on the International Civil Aviation Organisation site in 2018.
