State House Nairobi on Wednesday hosted an unprecedented political gathering as more than 12,300 aspirants affiliated to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) converged for a high level consultative meeting convened by President William Ruto.
From early morning, convoys of vehicles streamed into the country’s seat of power, underscoring the scale and significance of the event, which UDA officials described as part of early preparations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The meeting brought together aspirants from across the country, cutting across parliamentary, gubernatorial and other elective positions.
Addressing the gathering, President Ruto urged unity, discipline and loyalty to the party’s agenda, while cautioning aspirants against premature campaigns and internal rivalries that could weaken the party’s grassroots support.
He emphasized that UDA remains committed to transparent and credible nomination processes, noting that internal democracy would be key to the party’s success in 2027.
State House and the Party Question
The use of State House as the venue once again raised questions about the increasingly blurred lines between State and party politics.
While the facility is a symbol of national unity and executive authority, its yellow themed atmosphere during the meeting reflected the ruling party’s dominant presence, a reality that has continued to draw public debate.

However, skepticism remains among some aspirants, citing past experiences where technological solutions failed to resolve deep seated political contestations on the ground.
